Alaskan Hercules
In the 1960s, Alaska Airlines purchased six civilian versions of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules military transport, designated L-382. These rugged freighters were used extensively to supply North Slope oil operations, but were also used in South America, Vietnam, Alaska and many remote sites where they were able to operate from rugged, unprepared airstrips. A real workhorse, the attractive "Golden Nugget" livery gave it a little panache.
