This painting is one of three Steve Cox air racer works featured in the January 2021, issue of Air Classics magazine accompanying Tim Weinschenker's story: Cleveland’s Forgotten1947 Air Racers.

 

At the 1947 Cleveland air races, 21-year old former Air Force fighter pilot Ken Knight would fly his stunning P-63A King Cobra, race #51 to victory in the "Tinnerman" trophy race at an average speed of 352.168 mph. Steve Wittman would take third place in his beautiful polished aluminum, red trimmed P-63C race #4 at an average speed of 367.035 mph. after having to reduce power in lap 4 of the 7 lap, 15-mile race.
