Pax River Skyrays
In 1955, these Douglas YF4D-1 Skyrays were assigned to the Naval Air Test Center at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland. They were involved in several early Skyray test programs, including performance and handling, catapult and arrestment, barrier engagement and external weapons stores separation. There are many colorful paint schemes for Skyrays, but I have always liked the glossy dark sea blue, as it gave the bat shaped aircraft a somewhat sinister, futuristic appearance.
