In 2013, an air to air photo mission was arranged to secure photos of the Flight Heritage Collections' newly restored F6F-5 Hellcat. The photos were featured on the cover and a centerspread article in the June 2013 issue of Air Classics Magazine. I was captivated by the subdued lighting from less than ideal weather and the reflection of the photo aircraft in the Hellcats glossy new paint.
Photographer Jim Larsen and O-2 pilot Tom Cathcart happen to be good friends of mine, and I thought it would be fun to show their importance to the mission along with Steve Hinton piloting the Hellcat. It was a very satisfying exercise to try and capture the feel of the setting that day, and of course include the 0-2 Skymaster's reflection. The 0-2 is a totally authentic and detailed representation of the type's service in the Vietnam war. The aircraft was donated to the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Wash. by its previous owners Jon and Ann Bowman.
